SEMA has released a statement addressing questions regarding the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Trump Administration’s actions on EV mandates. According to SEMA, some members of the industry have suggested that the EV mandate rollbacks indicate that defeat devices used to skirt emissions laws are allowed and that the use of them will not be restricted by the EPA. SEMA states that this is not true and that defeat devices are still illegal.
In an attempt to ensure SEMA members and the aftermarket industry are fully informed regarding the facts of the EV mandates, the organization has created a Fact Sheet. SEMA says the document sets the record straight on these and other issues.
In the Fact Sheet, SEMA lists several rumors and labels them as “True” or “False” (or in some cases, “Absolutely True” or “Absolutely False,” along with one “Maybe” and a “Nope”). Under the “Trump Ended the EPA” header, SEMA writes: “The EPA continues to exist and operate as the federal authority for protecting the nation’s public health and the environment, including setting and revising policies and regulations, along with enforcement against illegal activity. There are no indications that the Trump Administration is pursuing significant changes to that mission, including the shuttering of the agency.”
In its statement, SEMA is encouraging its members to share the Fact Sheet with their audiences, as applicable.
