Ford Authority announced recent reports show nearly one-third of car buyers would not buy a vehicle without Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. The report, conducted by McKinsey & Co., asked 30,000 consumers in 15 countries about their in-vehicle infotainment expectations.
While GM has pivoted to creating its own in-house software developed with Google, other brands like Ford have invested heavily in Apple infotainment software throughout the model lineup.
The larger report found that worldwide, 30% of EV shoppers and 35% of ICE shoppers would not buy a car that didn’t offer phone integration. This trend continues as only 35% of buyers said they would be willing to learn the infotainment system and 52% of buyers saying they would just opt to use their smartphone instead of infotainment.
While nearly 90% of new models on the road today offer some kind of Apple CarPlay/Android Auto system, this still leaves a segment open to aftermarket installations.
