PPG Grant Powers Michigan and Toronto STEM Programs

PPG has provided $60,000 in grant funding through its foundation to support nearly 2,000 students in SAE’s science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) program in the suburbs of Detroit and Toronto.

PPG Foundation’s grant benefits an award-winning STEM program called A World In Motion (AWIM). Programming supported by PPG and the PPG Foundation will take place during the 2018-2019 school year. PPG will also provide its employees opportunities to volunteer in classrooms, according to the company.

AWIM is a teacher-administered, industry volunteer-assisted program that brings STEM subjects to life in the classroom for students in kindergarten through eighth grade. The program also trains teachers to increase their knowledge of and comfort in teaching science, technology and math, and provides schools with SAE’s hands-on STEM curriculum and materials.

“PPG is proud to support the next generation of innovators thought engaging and thoughtful STEM programming,” said Sue Sloan, executive director, PPG Foundation and corporate social responsibility. “Our employees truly enjoy going out into the community and giving their knowledge and experience back to students, so this program is a perfect fit.”
