Pirelli took it to both extremes recently as its Scorpion All Terrain Plus tires were equipped on a Porsche 911 Dakar that ran across the African desert and studded Stella Bianca tires were found on a Porsche 550 Spyder that ran the icy track of Zell Am See.
The tough tests celebrate a collaboration between Pirelli and the Stuttgart-based automaker that began with the Porsche 911 being the first model to sport Pirelli tires back in 1982.
The Porsche 911 Dakar fitted with Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus tires covered more than 4,300 miles across sand, dirt, and rocky desert terrain on a single set. The Dakar started in Rosenheim, Germany and followed the route of the Africa Eco Race rally.
The Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus tire was developed as original equipment for the Porsche 911 Dakar, supporting its high-performance characteristics in a variety of off-road conditions. Pirelli combined the features within a single tire through the introduction of a particular compound family.
