OPTIMA Batteries is celebrating OPTIMA-sponsored driver Christopher Polvoorde’s win in the T2 class of the Toyo Tires Desert Challenge for Unlimited Trucks and Buggies at the King of the Hammers, the company announced.
The Desert Challenge allows three different classes of off-road vehicles, T1, T2 and B1, to qualify and compete against one another on the same course. After qualifying first in the T2 class, Polvoorde earned the ninth starting position in the race and finished second place overall. Polvoorde’s finish was ahead of most unlimited T1 class vehicles, which have no limits on engine modifications compared to the limited engines of the T2 class, the company said. With an official time of 4:55:45 in the OPTIMA Batteries Ford Raptor Spec Trophy Truck, Polvoorde’s result was the highest a Spec Trophy Truck has ever finished overall in the King Of The Hammers desert race.
“Between the dust, spending that much time in the car and so many other variables, it’s a tough race to finish,” said Polvoorde, driver of the #294 OPTIMA Batteries Ford Raptor Spec Trophy Truck. “We’ve had a lot of close races recently, and now that we’ve got it done, it just feels unreal.”
