OPTIMA Batteries, a leading brand of Clarios, has announced its return to King of the Hammers with zero-carbon green renewable energy powering its compound and EV chargers.
EV and hybrid owners are invited to the second annual OPTIMA Unplugged Powered by Clarios and Presented by DCE event as part of the festivities. Set for Feb. 1, it’s expected to be the largest gathering of off-road electric vehicle enthusiasts ever, according to a press release.
Set for Jan. 18-Feb. 3 in Johnson Valley, California, the 2024 Progressive King of the Hammers Presented by Nitto and Powered by OPTIMA Batteries is a total off-road experience that includes 10-plus days of racing off-road vehicles of every shape and size. Every year, electric and hybrid vehicles are included in greater numbers.
“This year, OPTIMA Unplugged expands to a two-day event where participants can register their EVs or HEVs to experience the most iconic trails in Johnson Valley and the all-new dedicated camping area, the OPTIMA Oasis at The Forty,” the release stated.
The tour, set up as a poker run and led by OPTIMA Batteries ambassadors, offers an entry-level off-road adventure on Thursday, Feb. 1, for beginner drivers with limited off-road experience with no vehicle modifications required. A more advanced ride on Friday, Feb. 2, is for those looking for a greater challenge.
OPTIMA will provide 10 Level 2 chargers and four Level 3 chargers, all powered by hydrogen supplied by industry experts at Renewable Innovations. The entire OPTIMA Oasis will also be powered by Renewable Innovations’ zero-carbon green renewable energy via solar and hydrogen as OPTIMA and Clarios continue to push for innovation in the off-road community, the release noted.
Both brands hope to move the needle toward remote off-road events featuring EVs and HEVs alongside their internal combustion engine (ICE) counterparts. Charging at OPTIMA Oasis is available free of charge for any electric vehicle.
“The OPTIMA Oasis is the perfect alternative for EV owners looking to experience the spectacle of King of the Hammers,” the company stated. “The OPTIMA Unplugged Powered by Clarios event will be onsite at the 10-acre private gated facility powered entirely by renewable energy. With the purchase of a two-day pass, guests will have access to unlimited EV charging, comfortable camping that includes restrooms and showers, evening entertainment and catered meals. Industry leaders will be on hand to answer questions and discuss the future of sustainable off-roading.”
