As thousands of enthusiasts and manufacturers left California following Monterey Car Week, a rare Ford Ghia prototype was lost in a fire on its way home. The news comes from Car & Driver and the Ghia’s longtime owners, the Scott Grundfor Company.

The one-of-one Ghia bodied Ford was displayed at Monterey Car Week as part of the Wedge-shaped class alongside other coach built rarities. During the transport home, the car was caught in a fire in a transport trailer. Aside from the rare model, nobody was hurt. The Scott Grundfor Company released an Instagram post confirming the tragedy.

The restoration company plans on bringing what remains of the Ghia back to its facilities to reside among other Ghia bodied Ford prototypes in their collection.
