NASCAR Hall of Fame Driver Bobby Allison Passes Away

According to a report from CNN, famed Indy 500 driver and versatile racer Bobby Allison has passed away at age 86. The NASCAR Hall of Famer passed away at his home in Mooresville, North Carolina, on Nov. 9, the report stated.

Throughout his longstanding 30-year career, Allison won over 85 NASCAR races and the 1983 Series championship. Prestigious wins for the racer included the Daytona 500 in 1978, 82 and 88. The final win came as he beat out his own son, Davey, for the overall win.

Allison also won in the NASCAR Xfinity Series and won the International Race of Champions (IROC) in 1980 and made two starts at the Indianapolis 500.

Most recently, Allison was retroactively awarded the overall win at the 1971 race at Bowman Gray Stadium, which helped him beat out famed driver Darrell Waltrip for an official 85 NASCAR wins throughout his career.
