According to a new report from Road & Track, FIA Safety Delegate Michèle Mouton has announced that she will retire following the 2024 season. Mouton began her career with the FIA in 2010 following a successful rally and racing career. That same year she became the first president of the FIA’s Women & Motor Sport Commission.
Mouton currently works as FIA’s Safety Delegate, responsible with crew and driver safety. Prior to her career trackside, Mouton was a professional rally driver in the World Rally Championship starting in 1972. She was not the first woman in WRC, but would become the first to win an event, and nearly took the championship in 1982.
Mouton was skilled in various aspects of racing, winning her class at the 24 hours of LeMans in 1975, and becoming the only woman ever to take the overall win at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.
