Mattel, Inc. announced a collaboration between its Mattel Brick Shop Hot Wheels line and quattro GmbH and Auto Union GmbH, both subsidiaries of AUDI AG. The collection includes two new vehicle building sets: an Audi Avant RS2 in 1:32 scale and the Audi R8 LMS in 1:16 scale. The building sets are available now for pre-sale at select retailers globally, company officials stated in a press release.
“Mattel Brick Shop and Hot Wheels brand collaborations provide adult collectors and auto enthusiasts alike the ability to interact with their favorite vehicles, like these storied Audi models, in an entirely new way—by building them,” said Ted Wu, global head of vehicles and building sets at Mattel. “Hot Wheels and Audi first partnered for the first official casting in 1993, and we’re proud to expand that relationship into one of the company’s newest brands in the building category, Mattel Brick Shop.”
The two Audi models were selected for their iconic designs, storied heritage and legendary status among car fanatics, noted the release. Both building sets feature accurate details and proportions, allowing collectors the ability to recreate and customize these renowned Audi vehicles.
Mattel Brick Shop Hot Wheels Audi Avant RS2
The Avant RS2 was sold as a limited-edition model in 1994 and 1995. Despite its brief production, it quickly developed a cult following thanks to its unique turbocharged five-cylinder engine and 6-speed manual transmission. The 1:32 scale Mattel Brick Shop Audi Avant RS2 features a removable OEM-style greenhouse roof for interior access, four opening doors and opening front and back windshields—a first at this scale for Mattel.
The build also includes Toyo Proxes R888R tires alongside a Hot Wheels signature metal plate and the ability to customize the model with unique decals and OEM-licensed wheels. The kit is recommended for ages 17 and up and has a suggested retail price of $19.99.
Mattel Brick Shop Hot Wheels Audi R8 LMS
Debuted in 2009, the Audi R8 LMS carries its own legacy as a part of Audi’s storied racing history. Powered by a V10 engine and built to FIA GT3 specifications, the R8 LMS was the first-ever model from Audi Sport customer racing. With victories in some of the world’s most prestigious endurance races, including seven overall wins at the Nürburgring 24 Hours, as well as numerous championship titles, the Audi R8 LMS has firmly secured its place in modern racing history. Many of the several hundred Audi GT3 cars sold worldwide are still in regular use today.
This model represents the second generation of the car (2015-24). The Mattel Brick Shop Audi R8 LMS comes in an authentic buildable 1:16 scale and features a removable greenhouse roof, revealing a detailed interior with opening doors and an opening engine hatch. Additionally, a functional steering wheel connects directly to the wheels, offering realistic movement. Builders can personalize their Audi with interchangeable decals, splitters, spoilers and an included extra set of metal wheel covers. This model also includes a Hot Wheels signature metal plate. The kit is recommended for ages 17 and up and has a suggested retail price of $49.99.
