Lotus unveiled its new Evija X electric track car July 13 in Cheshire, England, during the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Following the initial debut run, the prototype Lotus was preparing for its timed run at the event when an unexpected issue caused the $2.3 million prototype to crash just after the start line.
Both driver and vehicle were unharmed, with Lotus later saying that only the front bodywork was damaged in the incident. Data from the incident shows the driver was committed to the run, giving the vehicle 100% throttle input, which spun all four tires over 150 mph in under a second.
