According to Automotive News, lawmakers are raising questions into data sharing between automakers and law enforcement. This comes after recent announcements that manufacturers have been sharing data with insurance companies.
The report notes that eight automakers have provided law enforcement with data when subpoenaed. Previously all of these automakers agreed to the Consumer Privacy Protection Principals which would only provide data in the case of a warrant or order issued by a court.
The eight manufacturers include: BMW, Kia, Mazda, Nissan, Mercedes-Benz, Subaru, Toyota and Volkswagen.
Lawmakers also praised five manufacturers for their commitments to the Consumer Privacy Protection Principals including: GM, Honda, Ford, Tesla and Stellantis.
