Mike Herman, founder of H&H Flatheads, has named Dick Williams’ ’27 roadster as the winner of its annual Best Dressed Flathead competition at the annual Grand National Roadster Show, the company announced.
“Every year the choice to select the Best Dressed Flathead gets harder and harder,” said Herman. “This year was no exception, and we walked the show looking for the coolest flathead and, as usual, there were many to choose from.
“Finally, we zeroed in on the Dick Williams’ ‘27 Roadster that won the America’s Most Beautiful Roadster Award at the Grand National Roadster Show in 1953. Over the years, the Roadster was updated including a color change from the original robin’s egg blue to candy red,” Herman continued. “Eventually, however, the car, which ran 123 mph at Bonneville, fell into the hands of Ross and Beth Myers who entrusted Roy Brizio Street Rods to handle a complete restoration to the way it was in 1953.”
“Originally, the engine was [a] ’48 Merc’, however, the restored engine is close to the original. With a 4-inch crank the capacity is 276 ci and it’s fitted with Navarro heads, an 4×2 Weiand intake, Kong ignition and four chrome Stromberg 97s. Highly detailed, it’s a fitting tribute to Dick William’s original and a well deserved winner of the 2022 Best Dressed Flathead.”
