Helderburg Builds ‘Vermeer,’ a One-Off Land Rover Defender 110

A light-shifting pearl finish, custom interior & reengineered turbo-diesel define this build, inspired by a 17th-century Dutch painter…

Helderburg has unveiled its latest commission, “Vermeer,” a bespoke Land Rover Defender 110 inspired by 17th-century Dutch master Johannes Vermeer and his mastery of light. Shaped by complete creative freedom given to the company by the client, the $403,740 build translates Vermeer’s artistic philosophy into dynamic exterior styling and intricate interior craftsmanship, company officials stated in a press release.

Light-Shifting Pearl Paint & Custom Interior

Rather than executing a basic white-over-red build, Helderburg founder Paul Potratz incorporated light directly into the design language.

The cabin features deep red & black leather with custom hand-engraved metal accents.

Reengineered 300Tdi Diesel, Brakes & Suspension

“Vermeer” is built on an original factory Defender featuring a rare VIN and limited-production options like factory power windows. Helderburg preserved the original frame and numbers-matching 300Tdi turbo-diesel engine, which was extensively reengineered in-house to deliver increased torque, daily drivability and effortless highway cruising while preserving the truck’s pedigree, the company said.

“The client gave me the inspiration, but eventually he stopped choosing colors and simply told me, ‘Paul, you decide. I trust you,’” said Potratz. “When a client grants that level of trust, it allows us to show what complete vehicle reengineering really looks like. We designed the engine dynamics, suspension geometry, custom glass, hand-engraved metalwork and light-shifting paint to work as one living unit. Everything was designed to be discovered over time.”

Helderburg says “Vermeer” highlights its distinct approach of blending fine art, proprietary engineering and bespoke craftsmanship into a one-of-one class of classic Land Rover Defenders.
