According to a new report from Reuters, GM has announced thelayoffs of over 1,000 software and services employees. According to the report, more than 600 of the layoffs came from GM’s tech campus near Detroit.
Rather than the layoffs coming from cost-cutting, the brand stated that the layoffs were part of a restructuring of the software and services teams following the departure of executive vice president of software and services, Mike Abbott, in March.
Under Abbott, GM’s teams were developing electric vehicle and subscription-based services. This news comes just after Stellantis recent layoffs at the Ram assembly plant in Detroit.
