A new report from InsideEVS notes that Ford is taking a big step to get electric cars into more homes.
The new program called the Ford Power Promise is attempting to help make the transition to EV easier by offering free installation of a Level 2 EV charger in any home that buys or leases a new Ford EV model.
While most EV owners already charge their vehicle at home, the report notes that Ford is willing to take on the costs of installation to help address issues with EV uptake. As a representative from Ford noted, “It’s not the range anxiety people are afraid of, it’s the change anxiety.” Through this new program that started Oct. 1, buyers will receive 60 amp circuits, up to 80 feet of wiring, Ford Charge Station Pro and ties to the house’s electrical meter.
While many car companies offer a home charger with purchase of an EV, Ford is the first to offer installation of the charger for new buyers.
