Ferrari Introduces 296 Challenge Racecar

Ferrari has introduced the 296 Challenge, the ninth model in the history of the one-make Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli series, the Italian automaker announced.

Due to debut in the Europe and North America series in the 2024 season, the 296 Challenge introduces several new features and replaces the outgoing Ferrari 488 Challenge Evo.

Based on the hybrid-powered Ferrari 296 GTB, the 296 Challenge features modifications on the power unit and aero and vehicle dynamics fronts, all aimed at improving on-track performance, Ferrari said.

The one-make competitor borrows the GTB’s 2.9-liter twin turbo engine, but without the hybrid component, a choice also made for the 296 GT3, Ferrari said, ultimately delivering a total of 690 hp.

The 296 Challenge’s aero package also delivers increased downforce figures, generating up to 1,918 lbs. of downforce at 150 mph with the spoiler at its maximum angle of attack, Ferrari engineers said.

The car also sees the debut of ABS EVO Track, a system introduced on the 296 GTB, and adds CCM-R PLUS brake discs, and specially-developed Pirelli 19-inch tires.
