Since its founding in 2017, Expedition Motor Company (EMC) has restored and delivered over 160 1990s-era Geländewagens. For those seeking an EMC G-Wagen with a modernized powertrain, EMC is now accepting commissions for a limited run of its 6.2L V-8-powered model, dubbed the “620GE.” Since introducing their LS3 Wolf model, EMC has built five to date, making the next series of Wolfs a rare opportunity for enthusiasts to own a restomod G-Wagen. EMC will only be accepting six 620GE commissions in 2025 at a starting price of $215,000.

“The 620GE restomod offers a wonderful package for our clients,” said Alex Levin, founder of Expedition Motor Company. “It combines the same pedigree and customization options as our 250GD with the power and drivability of a modern eight-cylinder. Anyone who loves the design of our G-Wagens and desires a beefier engine will be blown away by the 620GE.”

According to the company, each 620GE Wolf undergoes 2,300 hours of meticulous restoration and modification, ensuring every vehicle is built to the highest standards. The reimagined G-Wagen offers a stark upgrade from the original OM602 diesel engine found in the 1990s-era military Gs. EMC’s LS3s are de-tuned to 350 hp to provide compliant power delivery but can be unleashed to 430 hp upon request.

Enhanced Power Output and Interior

To accommodate the bigger engine, EMC equips the 620GE with a proprietary suspension package and completely revamped braking system–front braking power is increased by 48% and rear by 30% using a Mercedes AMG system with enlarged, ventilated rotors. The engine is further supported by an in-house developed cooling system and a double Cardan driveline, engineered to handle the enhanced power output. EMC claims that its line of restomod Wolfs continues the vehicle’s go-anywhere legacy while introducing a level of luxury and drivability that is unmatched in the vintage G-Wagen space.

Like all EMC Wolfs, the 620GE has a fully redesigned interior that blends vintage charm with modern conveniences. New features include wireless Apple CarPlay, a Harman 6.1 audio system, air conditioning, heated seats and a backup camera. EMC’s goal is to preserve the essence of the classic driving experience while offering contemporary comfort. Staying true to the G-Wagen’s utilitarian roots, EMC interiors are weatherproof. Clients can further personalize their 620GE by choosing from approximately 40 interior color options for their cabin.

“Our goal with the 620GE was to remain true to the G-Wagen’s utilitarian design while enhancing the driving experience to make these vehicles more practical in modern conditions. I believe we struck a great balance,” continues Levin.
