Aston Martin Valkyrie Named Michelin’s ‘Showstopper’ of the 2021 Goodwood Festival of Speed

The all-new Aston Martin Valkyrie hypercar has been declared the Michelin Supercar Paddock Showstopper of the Festival at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, the tire manufacturer announced.

The Michelin Supercar Paddock Showstopper award was presented to Darren Turner, Marek Reichman and the Aston Martin Valkyrie team by judges Jodie Kidd, designer Frank Stephenson, Mr. JWW and DriveTribe’s Mike Fernie.

Chosen for its pursuit of function over form, the judges were impressed with the hypercar’s road-going credentials as well as its striking aerodynamic design and mind-blowing performance.

The Aston Martin Valkyrie made its global debut at Goodwood Festival of Speed and is the first hypercar the British marque has ever produced. The car features a 6.5-liter V12 hybrid engine capable of delivering 1,160 horsepower and has a 100% carbon fiber chassis and bodyweight of just over 2,204 lbs. (1,000 kg), helping it achieve better than a 1:1 power to weight ratio.

The hypercar takes design and engineering cues from Formula One racing, Aston Martin said, thanks to collaborative input from Red Bull Racing designer Adrian Newey. The aerodynamics around the car were designed to give an F1 standard of performance, downforce and handling. Capable of reaching 0-62 mph in 2.5 seconds, the Valkyrie has a top speed in excess of 250 mph.

The Glickenhaus 004S and the Rimac Nevera were runners-up of the Michelin Supercar Paddock Showstopper Award.

The Glickenhaus SCG 0004S is powered by a supercharged V8 delivering 650 horsepower, is a three-seater with a central driving position and includes some amenities including air conditioning, Bluetooth speakers and a backup camera.

The all-electric Rimac Nevera was a runner-up for the award. It produces 1,914 horsepower and can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 1.97 seconds, and from 0 to 300 kph in 9.3 seconds. Each of the Nevera’s wheels are driven by their own electric motor and each wheel’s torque is automatically adjusted for improved handling.

Other automotive highlights from the Michelin live stage include the Lotus (Emira), Bugatti (Pur Sport), Ferrari (SF90), Porsche (GT3), Zenvo (TSR-S), Callum Design (Vanquish 25), Ford (Mach-E 1400), Corvette (C8), Mini (ePacesetter), BMW (2 Series), Mission H24 (LMPH2G), Koenigsegg (Regera), Everrati (964), The Little Car Company (Baby Bugatti).
