ECD Automotive Design, a company that builds bespoke luxury Land Rover Defenders and classic British icons, has unveiled its latest creation: Project Powder Keg. Based on the Land Rover Defender 110 platform, this all-electric vehicle reimagines the spirit of overlanding for the modern age—combining vintage off-road prowess with cutting-edge EV performance, company officials stated in a press release.

“Electrifying the Defender 110 was a great challenge. This vehicle has such a rich legacy as an overlanding workhorse, and we wanted to preserve every ounce of that spirit while ushering it into the electric era,” said Elliot Humble, ECD’s chief technical officer. “Project Powder Keg embodies everything we love about the Defender: capability, character and charisma, now delivering all that with instant EV torque and zero compromise.”

Project Powder Keg Is Ready To Explode Into Any Situation

This Defender 110 retains its rugged silhouette, cloaked in a muted eggshell Bonatti Gray and accented in Shadow Black. A six-point external roll cage traces the vehicle’s outline like armor, while a metal A-bar bumper fitted with a Warn winch ensures it’s ready for recovery situations. A constellation of LED spotlights is positioned at both the front and rear to provide visibility in any conditions.

ECD’s Electric Direct EV drivetrain is built primarily in-house as part of its next-generation electric platform. This powertrain delivers more than 300 horsepower and 368 lb-ft of torque, which allows for a powerful and refined driving experience. With an 84-kWh battery pack, the system offers a range of up to 200 miles.

Drivers can toggle between Sport, Eco and Normal driving modes through a dedicated touchscreen interface, while selectable two- or four-wheel-drive ensures the vehicle is ready for both daily driving and off-road conditions. With rapid charging capabilities from 10% to 80% in under an hour, the platform delivers both convenience and cutting-edge performance without compromising the Defender’s legendary character, noted the release.

Custom-Built Defender 110 Refined From the Inside Out

The interior showcases handcrafted upholstery in a rich Sumac tone used throughout the vehicle to create a warm, inviting atmosphere. The Exmoor Evander steering wheel is a relic reborn with vintage styling and modern refinement, framed by electric-set gauges. Recaro Orthoped seats offer comfort in both the front and middle rows, while four inward-facing jump seats in the rear are each stitched in horizontal Veluto Pelle leather. Billet aluminum accents, a modern infotainment system, and premium finishes throughout complete the elevated driving experience.

ECD says Project Powder Keg reflects its obsessive attention to detail, from the aggressive stance and all-terrain tires to the custom stitching on every seat. Every choice was made with the owner’s vision in mind, executed with ECD’s signature blend of artistry and precision.

“At ECD, we thrive on pushing boundaries—not just in performance, but in personalization,” continued Humble. “Our world-class team of engineers, designers and craftsmen continues to embrace every challenge that comes our way. Whether it’s an EV-powered Defender or a reimagined classic Jaguar, we’re building vehicles that tell bold new stories with every bolt and stitch.”
