Moment Motor Co. Introduces Electrified Mercedes-Benz Roadsters

Moment Motor Company has unveiled its newest EV conversion—the company’s Mercedes-Benz 280SL Signature series.

Founded as a preservationist of classic cars through electrification, Moment Motor Company has unveiled its newest EV conversion—the company’s Mercedes-Benz 280SL Signature series.

Selected as a vintage vehicle that can successfully accommodate an EV powertrain and the requisite re-engineering, the new Moment Motor Company 280SL preserves the original intent of one of the world’s most celebrated luxury roadsters while creating an incredibly smooth, fun-to-drive automotive masterpiece that’s suitable for daily use and modern driving conditions, according to the company.

“Our primary purpose is in thoughtfully re-engineering iconic vehicles like the 280SL with electrification and modern components. While the passion for these vehicles has endured throughout the decades, their functionality hasn’t stood the test of time. Through our tried-and-true design process, we offer collectors the ability to take highly celebrated, but seldomly used, vehicles from their collections and convert them with electric drivetrains for everyday usage,” said Marc Davis, Moment Motor Company founder.

The initial limited run of electric Mercedes-Benz 280SLs is part of Moment Motor Company’s Signature line of converted classic EVs and utilizes the company’s established design process. It delivers 370 pound-feet of torque and 300 hp through the company’s 400V powertrain.

The Moment Motor Company 280SL was engineered with a state-of-the-art three-phase permanent magnet motor for 175 miles of electric driving.

Starting at $135,000 for the conversion and $250,000 for a complete turnkey vehicle, Moment’s 280SL design process starts with an in-depth analysis of the vintage collectible car to determine how Moment Motor Company will engineer the EV powertrain and distribute the batteries within the vehicle. The company then employs state-of-the-art CAD imaging to create 3D models of each vehicle in order to integrate EV batteries and other powertrain components, according to the company.

Maintaining the weight balance and handling feel of the vehicle is just as important as the exhilarating rush of the EV powertrain, Moment added, so careful attention is paid to preserving as much of the driving character of the original as possible.

The Moment Motor Company 280SL was engineered with a state-of-the-art three-phase permanent magnet motor coupled with a fully integrated vehicle control system, electrified brakes, steering, heating and air conditioning, updated classic gauges, and a 62kWh battery pack for 175 miles of electric driving.

The company has also partnered with Unique Cars of Palm Beach for those that seek to purchase a completely restored, turnkey vehicle.
