NASCAR Legend Junior Johnson passed away in December, leaving behind a legacy of on- and off-track innovation and success.
Getting his start running moonshine for his father in a 1940 Ford, Johnson quickly rose through the stock car ranks, solidifying himself as an all-time great. As a driver, Johnson won 50 Grand National events, then later added 140 wins and six Winston Cup championships to his resume as an owner.
Automotive journalist James Maxwell looked back at Johnson’s storied life and career for the December 2018 issue of THE SHOP Magazine, covering everything from his humble North Carolina beginnings to his unrivaled impact on the sport.
