Ford has introduced an all-new Ranger for the 2024 model year, the automaker announced.
In addition to the off-road performance-minded Ranger Raptor, the midsize pickup will be available in XL, XLT and Lariat trim levels.
In designing the Ranger, Ford engineers improved the truck’s fully boxed high-strength steel frame, with the wheelbase and track both stretched about two inches to provide more bed space and improved stability, engineers said. The rear shocks and shock mounts have also been moved outboard of the frame rails for improved ride and control. All versions of the Ranger also benefit off-road from improved ground clearance and better approach and departure angles, Ford said.
The all-new truck also has a maximum available towing capacity of 7,500 lbs. and maximum available payload capacity of 1,805 lbs.
Under the hood, Fords, 2.3-liter EcoBoost continues as the standard engine, offering 270 hp and 310 lb.-ft. of torque. Additionally, the Ranger will be offered with an available 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 shared with F-150 and Bronco, which produces 315 hp and 400 lb.-ft. of torque. All Rangers come with a standard 10-speed automatic SelectShift transmission and an available electronic shift-on-the-fly 4×4 system, Ford said.
Ford designers also introduced more storage and useful interior features for the Ranger, the manufacturer said, including an available wireless charger for mobile devices, a large center console storage bin, larger door pockets and an available second, upper glovebox. The Ranger also has improved second-row storage with under-seat rear cargo bins, fold-flat rear seatbacks and additional storage room behind the seats.
Other new interior features include a standard 8-inch digital instrument cluster or available full-screen 12.4-inch cluster, as well as a standard 10.1-inch or available 12-inch center touchscreen with Ford’s SYNC 4A system, a standard embedded 4G LTE modem and FordPass Connect. Drivers can access dedicated screens for drive modes, off-road data, navigation, music, and other vehicle controls. The center screen is also linked to an available 360-degree camera, Ford said. Physical buttons and knobs will control some features like climate control and radio volume.
Devices can be charged with two USB ports in the cab and an available wireless charge pad. The Ranger can also receive over-the-air updates adding new features and capabilities, Ford said.
The Ranger is also equipped with available Zone Lighting that can be controlled through the in-vehicle touchscreen or FordPass App, along with available bed lighting.
Additionally, there are 31 standard or available driver assist features for Ranger, Ford said. These include BLIS with Trailer Coverage and Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go. A new short-throw E-shifter on Lariat 4×4 enables Ranger to offer driver assist features such as Active Park Assist 2.0, Pro Trailer Backup Assist and Trailer Reverse Guidance.
The bed has an available Integrated Box Side Step behind the rear tires, and an available 400-Watt power inverter with an outlet. The redesigned tailgate also doubles as a workbench with an integrated ruler and clamp pockets. Two inches of added track width have benefits in the bed as well, with more than four feet of width between the wheel wells, Ford said.
