Vintage Car Race and Show Brings ‘Mardi Gras in October’ to NOLA

Oct 5, 2015

The Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA) is presenting the Mardi Gras in October event this weekend (Oct. 9-11) at NOLA Motorsports Park.

Attendees will get a look at iconic race cars by Jaguar, Porsche, Shelby, MG and more.

The on-track sessions include practice, qualifying, and two sprint races for each of SVRA’s race groups, as well as two endurance races. The racers will navigate a 2.75-mile track that consists of 16 turns and a 5,200-foot straightway. The contemporary muscle car Trans-Am series will also race the track during the weekend, qualifying for a 100-mile feature race on Sunday, Oct. 11.

On Friday, Oct. 9, a procession of nearly 60 vintage cars will cruise their way from the west-bank to the heart of New Orleans in the French Quarter for the SVRA Vintage Car Parade, beginning at 4p.m.

The Shine and Show Car Show is set for Saturday, Oct. 10th. Classic, vintage and exotic cars will be on display, while local car clubs and auto collectors will be on hand to show off their passion.

The SVRA Mardi Gras Party will light up NOLA Motorsports Park Saturday evening with a brass band, beads, southern cuisine, and a fireworks display.
