Team PRW Wins Illinois Engine Build-Off

Apr 2, 2010

Fremd High School from Palatine, Ill., won first place in its divisional engine build-off as part of the Hot Rodders of Tomorrow Engine Challenge.

Sponsored by PRW, the team completed the challenge in 44 minutes, 15 seconds, and will represent Division 3 at the national championship build-off dubbed “Showdown at SEMA” at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas in November, according to a press release.

Held at the Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles, Ill., the Division 3 competition featured a record 17 participating high school auto tech teams. The teams are made up of invited auto technology classes from local high schools.

Each team consists of five students and an instructor/coach. The event resembles the tear-down between rounds at a drag race. The engines are identically prepared small-block Chevys, and students must properly disassemble the engine using only hand tools, utilizing proper de-torque and disassembly procedure, and then reassemble them.
