Syracuse Nationals Kicks Off

Jul 13, 2017

The 18th annual PPG Syracuse Nationals kicks off Friday, July 14, through Sunday, July 16. The three-day extravaganza is more than a car show. It’s the largest car show in the Northeast – a festival with something for everyone.

In addition to more than 8,000 cars and 400 vendors, it features live music, food, giveaways, a poker run, pin-striping demonstrations and artwork, a huge car corral and swap meet, fireworks, a Women’s World expo, an opportunity to experience a drag car start up, and more.

Special guests this year are Paul Teutel Jr. from “Orange County Choppers”, Brett (Big Schwag) Wagner from “Monster Garage” and Candy Clark from the movie, “American Graffiti.”

This year’s show will feature a new “Syracuse Nationals After Dark” component with live music and a pig roast on Friday night and a barbecue on Saturday night.

About the Syracuse Nationals:

  • Street rods, muscle cars, rat rods, antique cars, trucks, classics and customs, manufactured in 1985 or before are eligible to be entered. A Sunday Muscle Car show allows all muscle cars manufactured after 1985 to be entered.
  • The Syracuse Convention and Visitors’ Bureau estimates the event funnels about $12 million into the local economy. The show drew nearly 90,000 people last year from the U.S. and Canada.
  • More than $1Million has been raised for local charities since The Syracuse Nationals began 18 years ago. This year’s event benefits Ronald McDonald House, Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital, Clear Path for Veterans, Honor Flight of Syracuse, Humane Association, JDRF, Make a Wish, Matthew House, Francis House, Brewerton Food Pantry and Food Bank of CNY.

“We’re proud to bring the largest hot rod show in the Northeast to Central New York,” said Rob O’Connor, Syracuse Nationals event director. “We’re grateful for the support from the community, as well as Governor Andrew Cuomo, County Executive Joanie Mahoney, Commissioner of the NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets Richard Ball and Acting Director of the NYS Fair, Troy Waffner.”

Besides thousands of cars on display, more than 25 food vendors will sell everything from hot dogs to wood-fired pizza and wine slushies.
