Scorpion iPad Giveaway Brings Unexpected Marketing Value

When Cloverdale, Ind.-based Scorpion Protective Coatings launched its iPad giveaway program in March, the company didn’t expect an overwhelming number of entries from dealers and consumers, a surge of additional visits to its Facebook page.

“It went nuts,” said Beau Battin of Scorpion Protective Coatings. “We had 2,000-3,000 new ‘likes’ on Facebook, so we decided to do a giveaway every month until the end of the year.”

The idea to invest $300 to acquire more Facebook “likes” transformed into a successful marketing campaign, according to Battin. Chris Howard, the first winner of the iPad Giveaway program, even became a Scorpion Coatings applicator.

Scorpion encourages its dealers to share the giveaway with their customers. The company has received an average of 500 entries every month for the iPad. Winners are randomly selected at the beginning of each month, and individuals may enter once per month on Scorpion’s website.

Other past iPad winners include consumers Claudine Zoellner of Denver (April); Vicki Guthrie of Girard, Ill. (May) and Birgit Warner of Pflugervill, Texas (June), according to Scorpion.
