Santa’s sleigh to have GPS tracking system

Dec 17, 2009

Santa’s sleigh will be fitted with a GPS system that will allow children to follow his journey around the world on Christmas Eve. Starting at 6 a.m. EST on Dec. 24, drivers with OnStar will be able to press the blue button in their vehicles and request a “Santa Update.” From there, an adviser will share St. Nick’s whereabouts based on location information provided by the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD).

A new update will be available every hour through 5 a.m. EST on Dec. 25.

Santa’s high-tech sleigh upgrades also include rooftop assistance and automatic crash response (which Santa likely will never need), onboard reindeer diagnostics, stolen sleigh slowdown (unlikely in this case, but useful to have) and hands-free calling to the North Pole and turn-by-turn navigation.
