A new Volkswagen T5 Transporter Sportline wrapped to look like a rusty beater of a vehicle has been making the rounds on the Internet. The Scotland shop that wrapped the van-”Clyde Wraps Vehicle Graphics in Glasgow-”said visits to its website have exploded since a post showcasing the wrap job went live in February.

“The Internet has gone crazy over the ‘rust’ van. We have seen our site stats increase by 500 percent over the past few days and sites such as BoredPanda, CarThrottleBoingBoing, AutomotorundsportJoeMonsterNewsner, and Malaysian TV presenter/director Fizo Omar complimenting us on his Facebook Page to 2.2 million viewers,” according to the shop.

The one-off rust artwork was created by an in-house designer at Clyde Wraps.

“Taking exact measurements of the entire van over and above the blueprints we already held ensured rust could look like it had ran from door frames, handles, badges and mirrors, as well as adding extra fake metal panels that look like they are riveted onto the smooth new van,” according to the shop’s website.” The more distressed we made it look, the better the end result of the rust.

“Once we had completed the artwork, which is not mirror imaged for either side, we printed in full color digital vinyl and finished in a matte laminate to further dull the colors used.”

Perhaps the best part of the wrap:

“Our customer had great pleasure in telling us later that it only took three days for the police to pull him over to ask what was going on with all the rust,” according to the shop.
