N.J. Accessory Dealer Sees Renovation’s Benefits

Aug 13, 2013

Shrewsbury, N.J.-based Monmouth Truck Equipment, an accessory dealer and installer serving the fleet, commercial, municipal and offroad markets, is in the midst of having a standout year. The company’s sales have increased 20 percent on the year, compared to this time last year.

Kevin Zeran, the company’s retail manager, attributes the shop’s recent success to its expanded offerings of truck and offroad products, and a renovated showroom. Keystone Automotive, one of the company’s largest warehouse distributors, recognized Monmouth as one of its fastest growing dealers serving the Northeast region, according to Zeran.

“For the last two years, we’ve been cranking,” he said

When Zeran joined the Monmouth team two years ago, he brought experience serving the truck and offroad markets. He encouraged the company to diversify its product and services.

“The company was headed in a direction that was mainly commercially oriented, and the truck accessory sales took a backseat, per say,” Zeran said.

By shifting its focus from commercial upfitting to serving the accessory needs of Jeep and truck owners, Monmouth Truck Equipment refreshed its image and expanded its profit opportunities. The company renovated its showroom from the ground up to incorporate display-focused features rather than just large amounts of inventory.

Although Monmouth still experiences healthy business from the commercial side of market through the installation of dump, utility and rack bodies, its biggest sellers now include tool boxes, ladder racks, lift kits, wheels and tires, and Jeep accessories. The additional product offerings also benefit the company’s sales staff, according to Zeran.

“Now that we’ve brought in the products, the guys aren’t afraid to sell something different,” Zeran said. “They’re not afraid to spread their wings a little and try something new.”

Zeran said Monmouth plans to diversify its commercial offerings in the near future by adding products like heavy-duty haulers and fiber glass gooseneck bodies.

Monmouth Truck Equipment also will sponsor New Jersey’s Toughest Street Truck Challenge, the second-annual street truck competition organized by Zeran. The event will take place at Old Bridge Township Raceway on Aug. 24.
