Mar 13, 2014

John Menzler was announced as the winner of the inaugural Dick Dixon Legacy Award, which was established by the Hotrod & Restoration and Restyling & Truck Accessories Trade Shows to honor individuals dedicated to advancing the interest of hot rods, motorsports and the performance aftermarket.

An educator, driver, writer and industry promoter, Dixon inspired many to pursue rewarding careers in the industry and also wrote a popular column called “The Professor Files,” which appeared in Performance Business magazine for many years.

Menzler passed away Oct. 4 after a battle with leukemia. Known for his enthusiasm and passion for the automotive aftermarket, he was associated with organizations and companies such as the National Hot Rod Association, SEMA’s Motorsports Parts Manufacturers Council, Goodguys Rod & Custom, COMP Cams and Classic Instruments.

“John Menzler embodied exactly what Dick stood for,” said Chris Thompson of AIRAID Filter Co., who nominated Menzler for the award. “John also spent his life building connections and advancing the interests of hot rods, motorsports and the aftermarket. He launched/furthered the careers of many.”

The award will be presented to the Menzler family during the trade shows’ Grand Opening Breakfast, scheduled for Thursday, March 27 in Indianapolis.

Menzler worked with COMP Performance Group and owned his own company called Inventive Marketing/MotoFleet. Menzler received the MPMC Industry Recognition Award in 2000, was inducted into the MPMC Hall of Fame in 2010 and was named SEMA Person of the Year in 2011.
