Honda CR-V, Toyota Camry top list of 2012’s most researched new vehicles

The redesigned Honda CR-V is No. 1 on the list of the most researched vehicles of 2012 on, with the Toyota Camry and the Honda Civic coming in second and third. The list of 20 vehicles might give accessory dealers an idea of what vehicles are attracting car buyers and what models might be popular to restyle this year.

Although Volkswagen reported lead sales gains for December 2012, the VW Jetta was listed as No. 14 on Kelly Blue Book’s list of most researched new vehicles of last year.

The Mazda3, entering the top 20 most researched new vehicles of 2012 at No. 10, made significant climbs from its spot at No. 29 in 2011. KBB noted that the Mazda3 sparked interest among car shoppers with its fuel efficiency and affordably.

Since 2004, the Honda Civic, Honda Accord and Toyota Camry remain among the top five most researched new vehicles on However, several other vehicles either entered the list for the first time or significantly shifted position when compared to recent years, such as the Kia Sorento and Kia Optima.

The Ford Escape climbed 12 positions in 2011 to No. 8 in 2012, and the Nissan Altima increased three spots to No. 9. The Honda Odyssey fell five positions to No. 20 for 2012, while the Toyota Corolla fell four spots to No. 18.

The BMW 3 Series made an appearance on the list for the first since 2010 and is the only luxury vehicle on the top 20 list.

Moreover, KBB revealed that Toyota, Honda, Ford, Chevrolet and Hyundai, respectively, were the top five brands with the highest share of market interest, defined as the percentage of new-car shopper activity for a particular brand on in 2012.
