East Coast Defender (ECD) recently transferred shares of company ownership to 13 critical employees. All have been with ECD for more than a year and were invested as partners in the business for going above and beyond to add value, quality, and innovation to the luxury truck builder, according to the custom-build Land Rover Defender manufacturer.

“We build unique, uncompromising Land Rover Defenders for people who have dreams of driving something truly exclusive to fit their particular taste,” said Scott Wallace, co-founder of East Coast Defender. “We push for excellence and innovation in everything we do. As a result, we don’t treat our team members like employees. Our company is striving to treat them like owners and as owners, they should be rewarded accordingly. Our thought is that our company and our bespoke trucks will be the stronger for it.”

The new East Coast Defender employee owners carry several job titles, including:

  • QC Manager
  • Lead Tear-Down Technician
  • Tear-Down Technician
  • Head of Upholstery
  • Lead Drivetrain Technician
  • Lead Electrical Technician
  • Production Manager
  • Parts Manager
  • Electrical Technician
  • Cosmetics Technician
  • Head of Engineering
  • Workshop Manager
  • Fabrication Technician

Of the 28-person East Coast Defender Team, 60 percent of the employees now own equity in the company. By 2018, ECD hopes to expand ownership to all team members.
