Del City, a supplier of electrical and transportation supplies based in Menomonee Falls, Wis., recently teamed up with California-based West Coast Customs, BraunAbility and Sam Schmidt to customize a wheelchair-accessible SUV.
The camouflage-painted 2013 Ford Explorer was recently given to Marine Lance Corporal Mike DeLancey, who was shot by an enemy sniper while serving in Iraq, according to Del City. He was confined to a wheelchair after being placed in a medically induced coma for three months and is still undergoing therapy.
Del City provided West Coast Customs with all the electrical parts needed to power the wheelchair lift to enable DeLancey to comfortably drive the SUV.
“It’s truly an honor to be a part of this project,” said George Dowse, Del City’s business leader. “This specially equipped SUV offers more options and easier accessibility than other mobility vehicles.”
More than 200 veterans and friends gathered to present him with the brand new wheelchair-accessible vehicle.
Del City will be featured on an episode of Fox Sport’s “West Coast Customs” cable TV show on August 3.
