Cequent Performance Products, Plymouth, Mich., relocated its headquarters into a larger facility.

The new building boosts Cequent’s product testing laboratory by nearly doubling the overall square footage and doubling the amount of bay doors. Cequent acquired one third of the entire building and has an option for future expansion. To make room for new employees, the office space was increased from 25,000-31,000 sq. ft.

The company manufacturers such hitch and towing, and cargo management brands as Reese, Draw-Tite, Bulldog, Fulton, ROLA and Tekonsha.

New state-of-the art technology, such as a noise reduction system, faster Internet and video conferencing is being incorporated in the new facility. All lighting in the building was upgraded following a program that the local power company has for energy efficiency. Besides shrinking Cequent’s carbon footprint, this will also reduce its electric bill by at least 30%.

Keeping an emphasis on saving resources, the new facility has an onsite recycling program for metal, glass, plastic, paper and corrugated board. Cequent also has contracted an outside company for the recycling of batteries and light bulbs.

In other Cequent news, the Cleveland Plain Dealer newspaper named the company one of the best places to work in that city based on its Cequent was one of more than 1,000 local companies invited to participate in the program.

To take part in this program, a company needs to have at least 50 employees in the region and meet a response rate of either at least 35 employees or 35%. Cequent ended up with a 94% response rate by its employees, surpassing all other participating companies by more than 30%. Companies are evaluated by the employee responses to questions about leadership, compensation, training, workplace flexibility and diversity.
