Alpine Electronics Showcases Waterproof Jeep Wrangler AVN System

Alpine Electronics expanded its offering of Alpine Restyle products for the Jeep Wrangler at the Jan. 5-8 CES Show in Las Vegas. The new models offer Wrangler owners products to enhance their Jeep lifestyle, according to the company.

“Meeting the needs of Wrangler owners is an ongoing goal for us,” said Steve Crawford, vice president and general manager of the aftermarket business unit at Alpine Electronics of America. “Thanks to continuing research and discussion with these passionate owners, we’ve been able to introduce new products that address the entertainment and information challenges they experience when using these unique vehicles.”

The Alpine Restyle lineup of products for Jeep Wranglers consists of in-dash infotainment systems with 9-inch touchscreens, sound system products developed for the Wrangler’s interior, and a rear-camera system that matches the Wrangler’s spare tire design.

9-Inch Restyle Dash Systems

This is the third year that Alpine has exclusively offered 9-inch in-dash systems—the largest in the aftermarket—specifically for the Jeep Wrangler, according to the company. Three 9-inch Restyle models for 2011-up applications will be available in 2017: the new, all-weather X209-WRA with system expansion capabilities; the new, all-weather i209-WRA mech-less system; and the currently available X009-WRA.

The X209-WRA is a winner of the 2017 CES Innovations award, recognized for outstanding design and engineering in the In-Vehicle Audio/Video category. Each model comes with a dash bezel that replaces the OEM radio and Wrangler-specific wiring harnesses for plug-and-play installation.

The new X209-WRA and i209-WRA have features directly requested by Wrangler owners, Crawford said. Both are all-weather models, with splash-proof and dust-proof touchscreen and bezel (at IP54 ratings) that withstand the elements when the Wrangler’s top is removed for trail riding or rock crawling. The models also incorporate a new, high-visibility display, resulting in a bright screen that is easy to see even in direct sunlight.

Also new is connectivity to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto features.

Sound Systems

Jeep owners who drive with the Wrangler's top off can find it hard to get good sound reproduction due to the exposed cabin, according to Alpine. The new PSS-21WRA sound system for 2015-up, four-door Jeep Wranglers tackles this problem by loading the lower-frequency sound into the passenger’s foot well area, delivering quality audio and maximizing bass extension with the top on or off.

The 120-watt system consists of a PWE-S8-powered subwoofer with custom mounting brackets, SPT-70 6.5-inch component two-way speakers with 1-inch silk dome tweeter, SPT-71 6.5-inch component two-way speakers with 1-inch premium silk dome tweeter, a MRV-F300 V-Power 4-channel amplifier with mounting brackets, and wiring harnesses. All needed accessories are provided for easy installation.

Rear View Camera

Rounding out Alpine’s Wrangler-focused products is the HCE-TCAM1-WRA spare tire rear camera system for 2007-up models. The three-in-one design consists of a rear camera, LED reverse light and third brake light. Its 7-inch-diameter housing installs on the Wrangler’s spare tire mount and is fixed using the OEM lug nut or aftermarket wheel lock. It is compatible with factory and most aftermarket wheels and comes with three mounting poles of varying lengths to accommodate the depth of the wheel, according to Alpine.

The HCE-TCAM1-WRA is waterproof and dustproof (rated at IP66), so it can withstand the elements when used on trails or off-road.
