’11 Corvette buyers can build own engines

Jul 13, 2010

GM announced that purchasers of its 2011 Corvette Z06 and ZR1 can request to participate in assembling LS7 or LS9 engines when they order the car. GM will have one of its technicians oversee the build.

The catch is that purchasers will have to go to the Corvette assembly plant in Michigan at their own expense, as well as pony up a few extra grand for the bragging rights privilege of saying they built the engine of their $75,000 Z06 or $110,000 ZR1. They will, though, get their own engine nameplate.
