This Weekend's Car Show & Events Roundup

Over 2,000 classic cars are expected at the Goodguys' Chicagoland Nationals this year.This weekend, more shops, associations and communities around the country are hosting car shows and cruises that give retailers the opportunity to show off their projects, connect with new customers and support local organizations. Goodguys' 4th Peak Chicagoland Nationals takes place Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Joliet, Illinois. The outdoor event will feature over 1,500 hot rods, customs, classics, street machines, muscle cars and classics from 1972 or earlier, all competing for special awards in the 2010 Muscle Car of the Year Finalist, 2010 Muscle Machine of the Year Finalist, 2010 Kustom of the Year Finalist, Roadster Shop's Builder's Choice Awards and Gazette Pick categories. The Chicagoland Nationals will also feature drag races on Friday night, Street Challenge AutoCross on Friday and Saturday, vendor and manufacturer exhibits, a swap meet and cars for sale corral, a model and pedal car show, and special track cruises. Mid America Motorworks' 17th Annual Corvette Funfest takes place Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Effingham, Illinois. The event will feature appearances from George Barris, Linda Vaughn, past chief engineer Dave McLellan, GM world class service technician Paul Koerner, automotive artist Dana Forrester and authors Tom Benford, Randy Leffingwell, Richard Newton and Dave Emanuel. The Guess Who will also perform during Corvette Funfest. Events during the weekend will include a Corvette Fun Run & Downtown Street Party Thursday, "Cars and Stars" charity event Thursday evening, Corvette Fun Rallye Friday, Corvette auction Friday, Corvette Exhaust Wars Sound-Off Competitions throughout the weekend, exhibits, contests and awards. The 21st Annual Stater Bros. Route 66 Rendezvous takes place Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday in San Bernardino, California. There will be daily cruises and show-and-shines, as well as a Parade of Champions Cruise Sunday. The event will feature a Neon Light Contest on Thursday. Events taking place on Saturday include the San Manuel Indian Bingo & Casino Poker Run, the Open Head Contest, a Model Car Contest, Burnout Contest, and the Grill-to-Grill Culinary Cook-Off Saturday. The 5K Run with the Cops and a Firefighters Competition will take place on Sunday. There will be live music throughout the weekend. For more information, visit www.route-66.org. The Cruise 'N Car Show takes place Friday and Saturday in Midland, Michigan. The event starts Friday night with a parade and cruise through Midland, followed by a street dance with a DJ. Saturday features the all-day car show, a DJ, live music, street vendors and shopping. All car show registrants will get a ballot to vote on their favorite vehicles and the top 60 vote-getters will receive unique handmade trophies. There will also be specialty trophies for categories including Best Chevy, Best Ford and Best Engine, plus Best of Show. There will be door prizes and raffles throughout the day. The NSRA's Northeast Street Rod Nationals Plus takes place Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Burlington, Vermont. The weekend will include a car repair shop, NSRA safety inspections and awards presentation. The event will feature a swap meet, commercial exhibits, scavenger hunt, an arts-and-crafts area, prize drawings and entertainment. A participant kick-off dinner will take place Thursday. The Western MA Nationals & Revival Motorcycle Ride takes place Saturday and Sunday in Lenox, Massachusetts. All year, make and model rods, customs, street machines, muscle cars, trucks, imports, antiques and special interest vehicles are welcomed. The event will feature two day award presentations, with the top 12 vehicles receiving custom jackets and plaques, and many more specialty awards being presented. The 17th Annual Capitol Concours d'Elegance takes place Saturday in Sacramento, California, with all proceeds will benefit Shriners Hospitals for Children - Northern California. The event will showcase more than 100 examples of American and European vintage and exotic cars, including cars from Italy and France, and the Ford Thunderbird. Guests will have the opportunity to donate to the hospital in return for a ride in an exotic car such as Ferrari or Lamborghini or one of the surprises from Mercedes-Benz during the Ride & Drive. The event will also feature food and vendor exhibits, such as Garage Style magazine's Automobilia and Art Pavilion where vintage neon and metal signs, posters, books and other memorabilia can be purchased. The Motor City Corvette Concours takes place Saturday at Les Stanford Chevrolet-Cadillac in Dearborn, Michigan. During the event, 250 Corvettes will be judged in three competitions: the Corvette Concours is an invitation-only show-and-shine competition; the Judged Competition will be judged based on drive-and-shine criteria; and the People's Choice, where spectators will select their favorite C1–C6 Corvette. The Laurel Lions Club's Endless Summer Car, Bike and Truck Show takes place Saturday in Laurel, Maryland. Trophies will be awarded to the top 50 vehicles, and awards will be presented in categories including Best of Show Car, Best of Show Truck, Best of Show Motorcycle and Mayor's Choice. The event will feature a 50/50 raffle, live entertainment, food, vendors and games for kids. Proceeds will benefit the charitable works of the Laurel Lions Foundation. Mill Supply is hosting its annual charity golf outing Saturday in Columbia Station, Ohio. The four-person scramble will have an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start with lunch at the turn and dinner after golf. There will also be a hole-in-one bonus opportunity. All proceeds from the golf outing will benefit the Cleveland Food Bank. Last year's outing raised $1,000 for the food bank.
