A variety of car shows, cruises and other car events are taking place throughout the United States this weekend, with many of the events benefiting national and local charities. Here’s information on eight events, including the Petersen Museum’s 60th Corvette Anniversary Celebration and the 20th Annual Cavalcade of Cars.
The Petersen Automotive Museum of Los Angeles will host its 60th Corvette Anniversary Celebration on Friday, March 1 and Saturday, March 2. Friday’s events will run from 10:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. and will include a special Corvette exhibit, Corvette values seminar, a racing panel discussion and the Corvette 60th Anniversary Gala starting at 6 p.m. Saturday’s events will include the Corvette Day Car Show, which will welcome 500 Corvettes and will run from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. All proceeds from the car show will benefit the Petersen Automotive Museum Foundation’s educational programming. The 51st O’Reilly Auto Parts World of Wheels takes place Friday, March 1- Sunday, March 3 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Illinois. Presented by Denny Guest’s South Oak Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep, the event will include the 6th Annual Chicago Brushmasters Pinstriper Auction for Hope, with proceeds benefitting Shriners Hospital for Children and the Ronald McDonald House charities. The event will also include live rockabilly bands, a display of traditional rods, customs and bobbers, the Nitro Vintage Dragster and Funny Car Cacklefest featuring Al Bergler on Friday and Saturday, a one-day “Tuner Galleria” that features Euro, import, JDM and high-performance domestic cars, celebrity guest appearances and more. The 20th Annual Cavalcade of Cars takes place Friday, March 1- Sunday, March 3 at the Hamburg Fairgrounds in Hamburg, New York. The indoor car show will include classics, customs, race cars, motorcycles and hot rods on display in two rooms, as well as a special traditional hot rod display room. Other event highlights include auto-related vendors, live bands, food, an auction and more. Admission to the event is $12 for adults, $3 for kids ages 6-12 and free to those 5 and under. The 43rd Annual O’Reilly Auto Parts World of Wheels will run from Friday, March 1- Sunday, March 3 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. The event will feature a pinup girl contest on Friday, live bands, a car audio competition, a display of modern muscle cars, the All American Cycle Show and Competition of Excellence, Meguiar’s Car Car Tips and product demos and the World of Wheels Cruise-In on the streets of Sugar Bowl Drive. The 33rd Annual MDA Car Show takes place Friday, March 1- Sunday, March 3 at the Roanoke Civic Center in Roanoke, Virginia. The show’s profits will go to support the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The event will feature two floors of cars and vendors, a model car contest, a silent auction, a performance by the band Untax’t Whiskey on Friday night, an automotive flea market and car corral and more. Dave & Eds Super Auto Events Pro-formance Swap Meet & Car Corral takes place Saturday, March 2 and Sunday, March 3 at Stark County Fairgrounds in Canton, Ohio. Billed as Ohio’s largest indoor/outdoor performance meet, the event will feature vendors selling circle track, drag, sprint and street products inside two indoor heated building. It will also include outdoor vendors, a swap meet, car corral, food and more. Admission to the event is $7 day or $10 weekend pass for adults, and free to kids 11 and under. Muscle Car City of Punta Gorda, Florida, will host its Open Car and Truck Show on Saturday, March 2. The judged car show is limited to the first 400 cars, with trophies and cash prizes for club participation and extra classes for Corvettes and for all other car and trucks. The event will also include dash plaques for participants, a 50/50 raffle, food, a silent auction, a Chinese auction, vendors, door prizes and more, with proceeds going to benefit the Virginia B. The Pomona Swap Meet & Classic Car Show will take place Sunday, March 3 at the Fairplex in Pomona, California. Held seven times a year, this event is presented by George Cross & Sons and will include over 2,500 vendors selling hard-to-find car parts and accessories. Thousands of pre-1985 classic cars are expected to be displayed and for sale by their owners in six distinct Cars for Show & Sale Areas: Pre-1985 Classic Cars, any year Corvettes, any year Porsches, Pre-1959 Street Rods, Pre-1985 Imports and Pre-1985 Volkswagens.
