Weekend Car Shows & Events Roundup

This weekend is filled with some of the season’s biggest car shows and events including the Goodguy’s Spring Nationals, which kick-starts the association’s 2013 event schedule, and the Detroit Autorama. Here’s information on these events, as well as five other events taking place around the country this weekend.

The Goodguys Rod & Custom Association kicks off its 30th Anniversary season this weekend with the 4th Spring Nationals, taking place Friday, March 8- Sunday, March 10 at the Westworld in Scottsdale, Arizona. Event organizers are expecting thousands of 1972-and-earlier show cars to be on display. Other event highlights include the Goodguys AutoCross, which is an electronically timed vehicle speed and agility course; a midway of big rig tractor trailers, high-performance parts and accessory vendors, a used car parts swap meet, car corral and a model car program sponsored by Revell. The event will also feature the first All American Sunday of 2013, in which owners of American-powered show cars and trucks of all years, makes and models will be put on display. The 61st Annual Detroit Autorama takes place Friday, March 8- Sunday, March 10 at the COBO Center in Detroit, Michigan. Billed as “America’s Greatest Hot Rod Show,” the event will feature the 50th Anniversary Ridler’s Ball on Friday from 6- 9 p.m., which will include the announcement of the “Great 8” contenders.  Other event highlights will include a “Ridler’s Row” display, which will feature over 25 past Ridler Award winners; a Toy-o-Rama collectible toy display, Gene Winfield‘s Chop Shop exhibit, the Cavalcade of Customs car display, a tribute to 1955-1957 Thunderbirds, a display of musician Kid Rock’s personal vehicles, the “Nitro” Vintage Dragster and Funny Car Cacklefest, the Auto Art Panel Jam & Charity Auction, the “Miss Autorama” Pinup Contest on Saturday, live bands, celebrity guests and more. The 2013 Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance will be held Friday, March 8- Sunday, March 10 on the 10th and 18th fairways of The Golf Club of Amelia Island at Summer Beach adjacent to The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island, Florida. The event will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Corvette Sting Ray, with displays of classic and 2014 Corvette Sting Rays. In addition, the event will feature “The Design Analysis of the Revolutionary Corvette Sting Ray Seminar”, which will be presented by Chevrolet on Friday; a 2014 Corvette display on Saturday, and the Concours event on Sunday. The Carolina Collector Auto Fest takes place Friday, March 8- Sunday, March 10 at the State Fairgrounds Dorton Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina. The event will feature a swap meet and car corral all three days, as well as a classic car show on Saturday and open car show on Sunday. Dash plaques will be given to the first 200 car show participants. Other event highlights include a 50/50 raffle, car corral, live music, food and more. For more information, click here.

The Kyana Swap Meet will be held Saturday, March 9 and Sunday, March 10 at the Kentucky Fair and Expo Center in Louisville, Kentucky.  The indoor event will feature over 1,000 antique and custom car vendor spaces. The rain-or-shine event is presented by Kyana Region AACA. Admission to the event is $10 for adults per day, and free to children under 12 with parents.  For more information, click here.

The Autos for Autism event takes place in downtown Tarpon Springs, Florida, on Saturday, March 9. The event, which will run from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., will feature a benefit judged car show with trophies, door prizes, a Chinese auction, money giveaways and more.  Presented by AACA Richey Region, the event will also feature a 50/50 raffle, door prizes, dash plaques to the first 100 car show participants, goody bags to the first 80 participants, food, vendors and more. Granatelli Motorsports will host its first Dyno Day and Car Show on Saturday, March 9 at its facility in Oxnard, California. The event, which will run from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., will feature a judged car show. Car show participants can enter their vehicles into the following classes: Best of Show, Most Horsepower Force Inducted, Most Horsepower Naturally Aspirated, Best Engine Bay, Best Pre-1975 Classic and Sleeper Award.  J.R. Granatelli will also present the “J.R.’s Pick” award to the vehicle of his choice. The event will include dyno-ing ($55 for three pulls), food, kids’ activities, a 50/50 raffle, prizes and more.
