Weekend Car Shows & Events Roundup

Whether you’re a Mopar, Oldsmobile, hot rod or antique enthusiast, enjoy long mountain cruises, or just want to spend your free time around as many cool cars as possible, this weekend has many options for you. Events being held this weekend include Hot August Nights and the 32nd Annual Mopar Nationals. Information on these and eight additional shows is listed below. Hot August Nights runs through Sunday in Reno and Sparks, Nevada. The annual event features numerous car shows, cruises, parades and competitions. There are also film screenings, live entertainment, raffles, contests, auctions, a demolition derby, a swap meet, car corral, a poker walk, black jack tournament and more activities. The Georgia Mountain Moonshine Cruiz-In takes place Thursday, Friday and Saturday in Hiawassee, Georgia. The 60-mile mountain cruise starts Thursday morning at Ridges Resort, stops at Anna Ruby Falls, then moves on to the wine vineyard in Hiawassee and ends in town. Friday and Saturday feature show-and-shines, live music, a car parade, a cruise-in, awards presentations, and appearances by Dennis Gage and Linda Vaughn. The 20th Annual Country Cruisers Car Show & Cruise takes place Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Manchester, Iowa. Friday features the Premier Show at Corcoran Furniture where trophies will be awarded and door prizes given away. Participants are asked to bring canned food items for the Delaware County Food Pantry in exchange for a dash plaque. Saturday is the evening cruise, beginning at E-Z Pickin’s, and participants are again asked to bring canned food items for the county food pantry. The 32nd Annual Mopar Nationals takes place Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the National Trail Raceway in Columbus, Ohio. The event will feature a swap meet, a manufacturers’ midway, race tech inspections, burn-out contests, seminars, auctions, races, a cruise, special vehicle displays and awards ceremony. The Stowe Car Show takes place Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Nichols Field in Stowe, Vermont. The 55th annual judged antique and classic car show will feature a flea market, car corral, automobile parade, awards ceremony and street dance. The 22nd Annual Del Shannon Car Show takes place Friday and Saturday in Coopersville, Michigan. The event kicks off Friday with a cruise expected to draw 400 cars. It will feature a barbecue cook-off and fireworks show. Saturday features a car and motorcycle show expected to draw more than 800 vehicles. The Lompoc Police Department and Special Olympics present the 11th Annual Car Show Saturday at Ryon Park in Lompoc, California. Vehicles will be judged in 26 categories and five special awards will also be presented. The event will also feature Hot Wheels racing, pedal car drag racing, a silent auction, a coloring contest, a bounce house, live entertainment, raffles and barbecue. The 15th Annual Rocketfest Oldsmobile Car Show takes place Saturday in Seville, Ohio. The event, which celebrates 1949-1959 Oldsmobile Rocket engines, will feature a car show, Oldsmobile memorabilia exhibits, a parade and cook-out lunch. For more information, visit www.rocketfest.com.

The Route 66 International Festival Car Show takes place Saturday at the San Bernardino County Fairgrounds in Victorville, California. The show is open to 1900-1985 cars and trucks. Trophies and prizes will be awarded. George Cross & Sons presents The Pomona Swap Meet and Car Show Sunday from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Pomona, California. The event will feature thousands of vehicles for show and/or sale and thousands of auto parts and related items. There will also be concession stands located throughout the event selling a wide variety of food and beverages. General admission is $8, with children 12 and under admitted free. Any year Corvette or Porsche, pre-1975 Volkswagens, pre-1957 street rods and pre-1975 collector cars will be admitted for $25. Any 1931 or older stock motorcar will be admitted for free.
