Weekend Car Shows & Events Roundup

A variety of car shows, cruises and other car events are taking place throughout the United States and Canada this weekend. Here’s information on nine such events, including the Concours d’Elegance of America, The Detroit Tigers Classic Car Show and the 10th Annual Kars Under the K Show & Shine. The 2011 Concours d’Elegance of America takes place Friday, Saturday and Sunday at The Inn at St. John’s in Plymouth, Michigan. A track event will take place at Michigan International Speedway, followed by a motoring tour, a VIP tour of The Henry Ford Museum, and a reception and auction preview on Friday. Saturday features the American Speed open house, Hagerty car valuation seminar, a design seminar, a mini VIP tour of Ilmor Engineering, the RM Vintage Motor Car Auction and nighttime gala. The concours takes place Sunday and will feature a variety of classic, pre-war, post-war, muscle, sports and drag racing vehicles from the United States and Europe. Autos of the World takes place Saturday and Sunday at Goddard State Park in Warwick, Rhode Island. The event features four car shows that will run simultaneously-The American Truck Show, The Classic Chrysler Car Show, Forever Ford and The Great GM Car Show. All four shows will be judged using a 400-point semi-national judging style and will have their own awards show. The event kicks off with a beach party cruise Friday night. The Detroit Tigers Classic Car Show takes place Saturday at Comerica Park in Detroit. The event is open to show-quality vehicles manufactured prior to 1990. Registration for the event includes two tickets to the Tigers versus Angels baseball game, two food vouchers, two car show T-shirts and one car show poster. Cars will be judged by a celebrity panel in six categories-Best Pre-1960, Best 1961-1970, Best 1971-1989, Best Custom Paint Job, Best Sports Car and Best Overall. The Rock Hard Car & Bike Show takes place Saturday at Winthrop Coliseum in Rock Hill, South Carolina. The outdoor event will showcase classic cars, street cars, imports and motorcycles. It will feature live music, a DJ, vendors, concessions and raffle drawings for a 2011 red-and-black Suzuki Hayabusa and a cruise for two. The Second Annual 1A Auto Car Show takes place Sunday at the Town Field in Pepperell, Massachusetts. The show is open to all vehicles and will feature a DJ, vendors, concessions and raffles. Last year’s show drew 150 cars and organizers are expecting it to draw even more this year. Proceeds will benefit the Multiple Sclerosis Association of America and American Youth Football. The Volo Auto Museum in Volo, Illinois, will host a cruise-in featuring Corvettes and Chevys on Sunday. The event will feature live entertainment, a beer garden and concessions. The 10th Annual Kars Under the K Show & Shine takes place Sunday at Memorial Park in Keremeos, British Columbia, Canada. The event is open to antique and vintage cars, trucks, tractors, muscle cars, street rods, customs and classic cars. It will feature free swimming for kids, a vendors’ alley, music, beverage garden and a pancake breakfast. Proceeds will benefit the Keremeos High School Automotive Shop, Keremeos Assisted Living, the Senior Center and the Friends of the Skating Rink Society. The North Shore Concours d’Elegance takes place Sunday at the Misselwood Estate in Beverly, Massachusetts. Automobiles of note on display at the event will include as a Pebble Beach Concours-winning 1932 Cadillac 355B and a 1970 Ford Torino GT 429 convertible, one of the possible three left in existence. There will also be a collector car parking area adjacent to the concours field. Presented by Endicott College and the Lyon-Waugh Auto Group, the event will feature musical entertainment, food and wine, art display, and fashion shows. Proceeds will benefit Endicott scholarships. The San Dimas Sheriff’s Booster Club presents the 18th Annual San Dimas Shine It! Show It! Cruise It! Sunday in San Dimas, California. The event is open to classic cars, vintage cars, collectible cars, street rods, full-size trucks, special interest vehicles and motorcycles. The day begins with a pancake breakfast, followed by a four-mile cruise and a car show where over 30 trophies will be awarded. Proceeds will benefit the San Dimas Sheriff’s Station Volunteer Groups.
