Weekend Car Shows & Events

The best American-made classics, hot rods, muscle cars and more will be given the star treatment at a variety of car shows and cruises being held this weekend across the United States and Canada, including Mid America Motorworks’ Corvette Funfest and Goodguys’ 1st Wix Filters Speedway Nationals. Mid America Motorworks hosts the 18th Annual Corvette Funfest Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Effingham, Illinois. The red, white and blue-themed event will feature a fun run road tour, a Corvette parade, special vehicle displays, seminars, celebrity appearances, contests, vehicle judging, a pinewood derby, a 5K walk/run and live music. The 22nd Annual Route 66 Rendezvous takes place Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday in San Bernardino, California. The event, which covers 35 blocks of downtown San Bernardino, will feature a show-and-shine, vehicle displays, a poker run, a vehicle parade, awards presentations, live music, autograph sessions and contests. Goodguys presents the 1st Wix Filters Speedway Nationals Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indianapolis. The event will welcome over 3,500 rods, customs and classics through 1972 competing for awards including 2011 Hot Rod of the Year and PPG Dream Car. The show will also feature an autograph session with Richard Petty, a swap meet, a cars for sale corral, a poker run, an Indy 500 track cruise, a model and pedal car show, the Goodguys Autocross, commercial exhibits, and nightly parties. The NSRA is hosting the Street Rod Nationals North Plus Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Kalamazoo County Fairgrounds in Kalamazoo, Michigan. For more information, click here.

The Palos Verdes Concours d’Elegance takes place Saturday and Sunday at the Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes, California. Saturday will feature a tour of the Banning Residence Museum, a road rally, awards presentation and grand marshal dinner. Saturday will feature vehicle displays, judging, an awards presentation, boutique booths and concessions. Vehicles will be displayed and judged in 22 classes, including Packard Darrins, American Classics, California Designs, Americam Convertibles, Woodies, Corvettes, Thunderbirds, Shelby Cobras and Shelby Mustangs. The Redneck Rumble 6 takes place Saturday and Sunday at the Wilson County Fairgrounds in Lebanon, Tennessee. The show is geared toward pre-1968 hot rods, customs, rat rods and antiques, as well as chopper and bobber motorcycles. The event, which is expected to draw over 500 vehicles, will also feature a Friday night cruise, Saturday night demolition derby, a swap meet and live music. Amanda’s Cruise for Juvenile Arthritis takes place Saturday in Bloomingdale, Ontario, Canada. The rain-or-shine event is open to all vehicles and will feature an eye-spy contest and poker run. The 2nd Annual Cruise to Historic Downtown Oregon City takes place Saturday in Oregon City, Oregon. The event is open to cars, trucks and motorcycles, and will feature games and music. Food specials will be offered by nine downtown restaurants. For more information, visit www.tricknracycars.org.

The 35th Annual Beloit Autorama takes place Sunday in Beloit, Wisconsin. The event will feature a car show, parts swap, car corral, arts and crafts vendors, and vendors. Vehicles can enter the car show in nine classes-street rods, customs, Corvettes, classics, ’55-“’64 full-size Chevys, trucks, antiques, high-performance vehicles and special interest. The University of New Haven American Society for Mechanical Engineers presents the Second Annual UNH ASME Auto Show Sunday in West Haven, Connecticut. The event is open to classic and modern American vehicles, European and Asian import vehicles, trucks, motorcycles, emergency vehicles and Smart/Mini cars. Prizes will be awarded to the top vehicles in each category. The event will benefit the ASME’s main project, the SAE Supermileage competition. UNH’s entry into the competition, a lightweight car that has achieved 500 mpg with an ultimate goal of achieving 1,500+ mpg, will be on display at the event. For more information, click here.
