Veterans’ Day Weekend Car Shows & Events

The long Veterans’ Day Weekend is giving shops, schools, car clubs and community organizations around the country the opportunity to host car shows and events that honor veterans and give retailers the opportunity to show off projects, connect with new customers and support great causes. Emerald Coast Cruizin’ continues through Saturday in Panama City Beach, Florida. The street rods, muscle cars and classics event features a show and shine, swap meet, kid’s area, car corral, flame-throwing competition, entertainment, vendors, parade,  cruise-in, auto auction, cash and prize drawings and a dance. The Bastrop Veterans’ Weekend Car Show 2010 takes place Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Bastrop, Texas. The show is expected to draw over 300 custom, hot rod and collector cars competing for awards in 23 classes as well as special awards such as Veterans Choice Award, Participants Choice Award, Club Participation Award, Best Chevy, Best Ford, Best Mopar, Herbert Linenberger Memorial Award and the Bastrop DBA People’s Choice Award. Friday features a meet-and-greet and a drive-in movie at dusk. Saturday is the car show with veterans’ ceremony and awards presentation. A brunch will be held on Sunday. Goodguys’ 21st Autumn Get-Together takes place Saturday and Sunday in Pleasanton, California. All American and American-powered cars and trucks are welcomed to the event, which will include an outdoor show ‘n shine, Street Challenge Autocross, swap meet, Cars 4 Sale Corral, vendor and manufacturer exhibits, model and pedal car show, a kids’ area, and a special Trick Trucks indoor display. Saturday will include a special Veterans’ Day observance with a color guard presentation and invocation with Dale Daly. Awards will be presented Sunday afternoon to over 80 recipients that will be selected by various celebrities, industry and magazine representatives. Eagle Motorsports, the racing division of Georgia Southern University, will host its Fall Car Show on Saturday at the RAC Pavilion on the Statesboro, Georgia, campus. All types of vehicles are welcome and trophies will be awarded in 12 classes-”Ford, GM, Mopar, antique (1900-“1965), truck, motorcycle, sports car, Best Audio, Best Engineered, Best Youth Entry, Best of Show and the Hard Luck Award. The event will also feature vendors, food, music, raffles and door prizes. All donations will go to the student chapter of American Society of Mechanical Engineers, a non-profit organization at Georgia Southern University. Steve’s Auto Restorations is hosting an Open House on Saturday at its facility in Portland, Oregon. Visitors are invited to tour the shop and view current projects, as well as see the Real Steel ’34 3-Window Coupe and Roadster. The 2010 Surf City Beach Cruise takes place Saturday in Huntington Beach, California. The event is open to all classics, Woodies, muscle cars, hot rods, collector cars, modern muscle cars, exotics and sport cars, and race cars. Awards will be presented at the event, which will also feature food, vendors, music, goody bags and opportunity drawings. The Tour de Wangers 2010 Musclecar Show ‘n Shine takes place Sunday in Oceanside, California. Open to all America cars, the event is hosted by the Southern California Gathering of Goats and Jim Wangers, “Godfather of the GTO” and former Pontiac ad man known for his GTO promotions. David Newhardt, author of “GTO” and “Muscle,” and Robert Genat, author of “Woodward Avenue: Cruising the Legendary Strip,” will be on-hand autographing books for purchase. Artist Art “Fitz” Fitzpatrick, who, with his partner Van Kaufman, produced all of the Wide-Track ads of the 1960s, will be displaying artwork, which will also be available for purchase. The 2010 Vintage Motor Classic takes place Sunday in St. Petersburg, Florida. Presented by the St. Petersburg Yacht Club, the event is open to all model-year-1979-and-older vintage cars, trucks, motorcycles and boats.
