This Weekend’s Car Show & Events Roundup

Associations, suppliers and communities around the country are hosting car shows and events this weekend that give retailers the opportunity to show off their projects, connect with new customers and support local organizations. The 14th Annual Cruisin’ the Coast continues through Sunday along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Car enthusiasts from over 37 states and Canada drive to the Mississippi Gulf Coast once a year to showcase and to cruise a variety of antique, classic and hot rod automobiles at designated stops along the Coast in Ocean Springs, Biloxi, D’Iberville, Gulfport, Bay St. Louis, and Waveland, according to event organizers. The cruise features swap meets, car auctions, car shows, autograph signings by Dennis Gage of “My Classic Car,” cash drawings, and live entertainment from acts including The Beach Boys, George Jones and David Cassidy. The NSRA’s Southeast Street Rod Nationals Plus takes place Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Tampa, Florida. The event will feature the Cruisin’ With Wings Show, a swap meet, commercial exhibits, model car contest, a poker run, NSRA safety inspections, live entertainment and drawings. The 2010 Temecula Fall Rod Run takes place Friday and Saturday in Temecula, California. The event features pre 1974 Vehicles and will have George Barris as its Grand Marshall. Friday night includes the Friday Night Cruise through Old Town Temecula, music, entertainment and food. Saturday features the show-and-shine. The Hugs for Life Car Show takes place Saturday in Murray, Utah. The event is open to all cars, trucks, motorcycles, boats, golf carts and special interest vehicles. Breakfast and lunch will be available at this free show. Donations and contributions at the show will benefit Hugs for Life Suicide Prevention and Awareness. Mid America Motorworks hosts its bi-annual Swapfest on Saturday in Effingham, Illinois. The event gives automotive enthusiasts of every type the chance to explore thousands of parts, buy, sell and swap, as well as meet with other collectors. In addition, a “Car for Sale Corral” will be available for individuals who would like to sell their vehicles. All items offered for sale must be automotive parts, accessories, or memorabilia for any type of enthusiast auto, whether Chevrolet, Ford, Mopar, Hot Rods, Street Rods or Muscle Cars, plus special emphasis on Corvettes and Classic Volkswagens. Elsie’s First Annual Rockin’ and Cruisin’ for a Cause takes place Saturday in Elsie, Michigan. The event will feature a car cruise open to classic cars and trucks, sports cars and motorcycles, as well as a burnout competition, 50/50 raffle, hula hoop contest, dancing and live music. Registration for the cruise is a $10 donation to the Elsie Food Bank or a bag of non-perishable food. Event organizers are aiming to fill a wagon with non-perishable food items at the car show.
