This Weekend’s Car Show & Event Roundup

With Monday marking the official start of summer, enthusiasts around the country are jumping at every opportunity to show off their classic cars and trucks. Here’s information on 10 shows and events you can attend this weekend to get acquainted with potential customers. The 11th Annual Cruisin’ Downriver event kicks off Thursday with the Cruisin’ Downriver Kickoff Car Show, which starts near the corner of Eureka Rd. and Biddle Ave. in Wyandotte, Michigan. Registration is required, and the show will be limited to the first 200 entries. The entry fee is $20 per vehicle and includes a spot in the show, a 2010 Cruisin’ Downriver T-shirt and a dash plaque. The cruise, which takes place on Saturday, will travel through the Michigan cities of Lincoln Park, Riverview, Southgate and Wyandotte. Other car-related events will be held in the Cruisin’ Downriver communities on Friday. More than 500,000 car buffs and enthusiasts are expected to line Fort St. to watch the cruise on Saturday. The 10th annual Drive Your Corvette to Work Day is Friday. Mid America Motorworks is inviting Corvette owners to upload photos of their Corvettes to its website to celebrate the day. For more information, visit www.mamotorworks.com.

Sacramento Vintage Ford Parts is launching its 12th Annual Cruisin’ Fun Season of Vintage Fridays this Friday. The free cruise is open to all pre-1973 American makes and models. Vintage Fridays will feature music, entertainment, food, contests for the kids, prizes and trophies. The cruise will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of America. The cruise will continue on July 30, Sept. 24 and Aug. 29. For more information, visit www.vintagefridays.com.

The Goodguys 19th East Coast Nationals takes place Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Dutchess County Fairgrounds in Rhinebeck, New York. The event will feature over 1,500 pre-1973 rods, customs, classics and muscle cars. Special awards will be presented to the 2010 Muscle Car of the Year Finalist, 2010 Kustom Car of the Year Finalist and Gazette Pick. Goodguys Builder’s Choice Awards will also be presented. The East Coast Nationals will also feature vendor and manufacturer exhibits, a swap meet, cars for sale, a model/pedal car show, a poker run, nightly parties and stage shows. The Bay Harbor Vintage Car and Boat Festival takes place Friday and Saturday in the Village at Bay Harbor Michigan. The festival kicks off Friday with the fifth annual Bay Harbor Northern Michigan Dream Cruise from 6-10 p.m. There also will be food, live entertainment, kid’s activities, a DJ playing Motown classics and an exhibit on how electricity is made. The festival continues Saturday with the Vintage Car and Boat Parade featuring motor cars from the early years, post-World War II and modified custom hot rods alongside electric vehicles. Mecum’s Bloomington Gold Corvette Auction takes place Friday and Saturday in St. Charles, Illinois. More than 400 Corvettes will be up for bid at the auction, including an original and unrestored 1965 Sting Ray, and many pace cars, L88s and low-mileage anniversary vehicles. Tickets for the event are $20 and can be purchased at the gate. Also on display at Bloomington Gold will be the ex-Tony DeLorenzo Corvette L88 Roadster, which is the earliest RPO-ordered L88 known to exist. The Kustom Auto Summer Nationals takes place Saturday and Sunday in Washington, Missouri. On Saturday there will be a poker run, cruise-in and a balloon glow at dusk. The car show takes place Sunday and awards will be presented in 40 classes. A swap meet will also be taking place throughout the weekend. The event will be held this weekend rain or shine. The 4th Annual Polish National Alliance Classic & Antique Car Show takes place Sunday in Chicago. The event is open to all 1985-and-older restored and unrestored muscle cars, classic cars, hot rods, customs, antique cars, sports cars and motorcycles. Trophies will be awarded. The 28th Annual Dana Point Concours d’Elegance takes place Sunday in Dana Point, California. The event will feature vehicles that showcase the 100 years of Alfa Romeo and celebrate 80 years of design from Pininfarina. The event will also welcome special classes of American pony and muscle cars, Corvettes to 1967, kustoms and hot rods, as well as the second annual exhibit of Supercars. The 19th Annual Cruisin’ in the Sun car show takes place Sunday in Pinole, California.
