The 3rd Annual Latina/o Student Union Rockabilly Festival is being held this Saturday, March 27, at Pitzer College in Claremont, California.
The free event, a celebration of the Kustom Kulture aesthetic movement exemplified by artists like Von Dutch, Ed Roth and Robert Williams, will include a car show, food, vendors and live music from The Wiseguys, Moonlight Trio, The Sugar Daddys and other bands.
Trophies will be awarded for car show participants and awards will also be given for Best Pompadour, Best Female Hairdo, Best Rockabilly Couple and Best Pachuco.
“[T]he most pioneering Kustom Kulture artists were the metal fabricators who radically transformed classic American cars into rolling sculpture,” said event organizers. “Today, Kustom Kulture is alive in many Latino barrios throughout the Southwest. With their fusion of Aztec-Catholic-Pachuco-Chicano-Greaser-Lowrider imagery and the styles and art of Ed Roth and Von Dutch, these artists are redefining Kustom Kulture in contemporary America.”
The Rockabilly Festival will be held at the Pitzer Mounds from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
