How to Find the Right Accountant for Your Business

Dec 28, 2010

Grow Smart Business contributor Rieva Lesonsky offered small business owners advice on how to find a good accountant in a recent article.

“A good accountant can quickly recoup the money you spend on him or her by making smart choices on your taxes,” Lesonsky wrote. “Beyond year-end taxes, a good business accountant can help your business in innumerable other ways [such as] setting up accounting systems and training you and your staff to use them; keeping up to date on tax changes throughout the year; offering business advice [and] assisting with strategic planning issues.”

To find the best accountant for your business, Lesonsky suggested asking four questions:

  • What kinds of services does the accountant offer?
  • How well does the accountant know your industry?
  • How does he or she charge?
  • Is it a good match?
