Google regularly updates its search ranking algorithms in an effort to deliver the most up-to-date and relevant search results possible, the company reports.
“Our goal is simple: to give people the most relevant answers to their queries as quickly as possible,” the company shared in a blog post announcing its most-recent algorithm change. “This requires constant tuning of our algorithms, as new content-both good and bad-comes online all the time.”
Each time one of these algorithm updates is announced, web marketing and search engine optimization (SEO) companies work to keep their clients’ sites at the top of the new page rankings. Small businesses, though, have to figure out how to master the new algorithm on their own.
Recently, small business technology reporters for AllBusiness.com spoke with SEO experts on the new Google algorithm (nicknamed “Panda Update”) and learned four tips business owners can follow to succeed with the new algorithm.
- Track the links to your site as well as you can and request the low-quality sites to take down their links.
- Focus your attention on cultivating backlinks from very high-quality and reputable sites in your niche, and register with directories with well-chosen keywords.
- Continue with your content creation. Blogs are one of the best ways to keep your site fresh and continually updated with new content.
- Social Media sites like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and others are where your audience is now. People would rather connect with a friend online and build relationships with new people than be sold on a product.
