Four Shops Competing in eBay Motors Charity Vehicle Build-Off Series ‘BUILT’

eBay Motors is launching “BUILT,” a new web video series taking car fans behind the scenes as four of the best garages in the world compete to build four unique vehicles with the base vehicles and parts sourced entirely from eBay. The series will run online July 18-Aug. 27.

Each vehicle will be auctioned off on eBay with the proceeds being donated to charities chosen by each of the participating garages, according to the auction site.

Fans will play a big role in the series, according to eBay.

The winner of “BUILT” will be chosen by viewers, who will vote on their favorite shop following each episode.

The completed builds will be revealed in episode nine and the winner of “BUILT” will be revealed in the tenth and final episode.

The vehicles will then be auctioned for charity on eBay and displayed at the SEMA Show, which takes place Oct. 30-Nov. 2 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Enthusiasts can tune in each week to watch the 10-episode BUILT series airing on the new eBay Motors content hub,, to see every aspect of the build, from frame delivery to the final paint job.

Each shop, all of which are based in the Los Angeles area, will be coached along the way by experts from Hot Rod, Lowrider, European Car and Four Wheeler magazines.

The four projects are:

1966 Chevy El Camino

Duran’s Quality Painting and owner Rico Duran have painted lowriders for the likes of David Beckham and several NFL players. The Baldwin Park, California, shop employs nearly a dozen of Duran’s family members, all of whom will be pitching it to complete the 1966 El Camino, which will be undrivable when it rolls into the shop. Auction proceeds will benefit the SEMA Scholarship Fund.

1968 Chevy G20 Van

Located in Huntington Beach, California, Mackey’s Hot Rods. will take on a 1968 Chevy G20 Van. The auction will benefit the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund, which aligns with Mackey’s plans to model the van after an aircraft carrier.

1970 Jeep Grand Cherokee Commando

Tasked with building a 1970 Jeep Grand Cherokee Commando, Mel Wade and his team at Fullerton, California-based Off Road Evolution specialize in 4x4s. Their plans for the Jeep include ensuring it tops off at 100 mph, on the road and in the desert. The vehicle will be auctioned to benefit the California Trail Users Coalition. 1

As the only duo in the series, Michael Essa and Nick Richards are the co-owners of GSR Autosport, a Lake Forest, California, shop that specializes in European cars, which its owners also race professionally.

Auction proceeds will benefit SEMA Cares.
